A Window in Time

It's 2018,  My cousin sent me an old photo of myself when I was in the army, It triggered a chain of thoughts so I compared my eyes from now and then just to see and I wrote what came into my head.

Maybe it might resonate with you, I don't know, I hope it does.

  1. Hi Evan. Reading your poem made me reflect on my own life and how I too have deeply changed, while remaining essentially the same person. Things I used to believe, my values, things I thought I knew, the person I thought I was - all of these have shifted over time. And yet I am still me with all my quirks and foibles. It is amazing when memories of our past are awoken by friends and family who may perceive us quite differently or remember us the way we used to be.

  2. Looking back at the young Me is always a bit gut wrenching. All that you now know - that you wish you could have told the young you - all the life lessons. But the young Me days were not wasted. We would never have our present knowledge if our feet hadn't stumbled in time past. We'd not be ready for any darkness that comes today if it wasn't for the uncertain moments those years ago. That young Me was digging foundations. Thank you, young Me!

  3. I like it ...in the first pic you 18years old the second pic you 51 years old ...imagine in 20 years time the amount of memories you would have gained and how you would change physically...looking forward to the future should be exciting ...not looking back to the past and being sad ...get out and create those memories cousin...

  4. Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it turned into a butterfly. A different imprint, purpose and function, but still the same creature inside. Keep moving forward, one page at a time...
