I suppose it is the lens of my own experience, some shared with you, but it is remarkable just how the indelible mark of the SADF experience shines through. I also relate well to your shadow poem, but who would not be able to do so. It was a pleasure to see your musings Evan and to know that there are more out there still feeling the reverberations of conscription, the lost years and potential pasts, and coming back to inhabit a world that simply turned a blind eye to our pain and turmoil; recoiling from what had become of us. To this day I can't recall anyone even in my immediate family ever so much as saying sorry for what their expectations had done to me. I suppose this was not much different for you.
Those possible pasts hey? They are what colour my shadow, along with all the regrets. But I suppose I have got my comeuppance as I, an erstwhile physically healthy person, have a body that is catching up with my mind.
For what it is worth, I am sorry for what you went through. Hamish
